Cars can be MOT’d up to a month before the MOT is due and we endeavour to notify existing customers of when their MOT is approaching.  Alternatively you can visit the government MOT site to check the MOT status of your vehicle.

Do I need An Mot?

This is a question we get asked all the time when it comes to their car. An MOT test is required by law every year for cars over three years old. Below are a few common questions we get asked?

1. What is a car MOT?

A car mot is a test that checks your vehicle for roadworthiness. It includes checking the brake discs, tyres and lights as well as safety features like steering locks and seat belts.

A mot is to make sure your car is safe for you and everyone on the road and to make sure it’s in good working order.

The test is based on the vehicle type, age and history of previous tests. You can check your car’s registration number online to find out when its last mot was done so that you know when it will need a new one next time around.

2. Why do I need one?

The reason you need one is first is the law and secondly to make sure your car is in good working order.

A failure can mean a £1000 fine and could result in having the vehicle seized by police, as well as points on your licence if you’re caught driving without one.

It’s advised that all cars over three years old have an MOT test every year because they’re due.

3. When should I get it done?

Every car over 3 years old should get an MOT test every year.

Also, an MOT can be carried out up to a month before the expiration date of your existing certificate, and still preserve the anniversary of that due date. If you get an inspection one month from now, it will actually last for 13 months!
